Liquid Logic Kayaks Review

Liquid Logic Kayaks has been a leading manufacturer of high-quality whitewater kayaks since 2001, when the company was founded on the Green River of North Carolina.

The company has since teamed up with Legacy Paddlesports in Greensboro, and relocated into a state-of-the-art manufacturing and testing facility in that city.

The team at Liquid Logic Kayaks designs, builds, tests and paddles their own line of boats. Shane Benedict, one of their top designers, is also a world-class playboater, a 10-year member of the US Freestyle Team, and a highly-acclaimed instructor for NOC. In fact just about everyone at Legacy Paddlesports has years of experience in the sport of whitewater kayaking.

Liquid Logics/Legacy have become worldwide brands in recent years, with distribution centers in Asia, Europe, New Zealand and Japan. The company tests all of their boats on the world-class whitewater just a few miles from their factory. They have strict demands as far as performance, quality, and product safety.

The Products

Liquid Logic manufacturers a full line of whitewater kayaks, including river runners, creekers, freestyle and crossover boats. They also offer several sit-on-top kayaks, and a “versa board,” which is a hybrid stand-up
Liquid Logic Biscuit 45 kayak paddleboard that you can attach a seat to and paddle as a SOT kayak as well. Prices start at about $800 for the Coupe 10 recreational kayak, and top out at about $1100 for the popular Remix series.

River runners - these are the Remix series. There are currently four models offered: the Remix 47, 59, 69 and 79. The Remix 47 is designed for kids and young adult paddlers. Sizes range from about 7' for the Remix 47, to almost 9' for the 79 model. Some of the features of the Remix boats include a relatively narrow and longer hull design that’s stable and quite responsive.

Creek boats - Liquid Logic produces 3 creek boat models, including the Jefe, Jefe Grande, and Jefe Chico for younger paddlers. Sizes range from 7' 9" for Chinco, to 8' 6" for the Grande. Features of these boats include soft chines and extra width at the hips to give added control and stability, and a rocker profile and extra volume to handle any size rapids.

Freestyle - if freestyle’s your thing, Liquid Logic has you covered here as well, with three different Bisquit models: the 45, 55 and 65. Sizes range from 5' 11" for the Bisquit 45, to 6' 3" for the 65 model. Features of these freestyle kayaks include a hull design that’s well balanced, with a unique bumper that makes these playboats both easy to roll, and easy to boss around in a hole and spin while surfing.

Outfitting - Liquid Logic has their own “Bad-Ass Outfitting,” with adjustable seats and thigh braces. The full-contact seats are inspired by race car seats, with snug and supple fit that’s comfortable and responsive even after a full day of paddling. LL uses a fast drying, recyclable DVD material that also acts as an air cushion support, which makes paddling whitewater even more of a joy.

The Pros

From what we’ve heard, Liquid Logic owners are generally quite pleased with their boats. The LL kayaks get high marks for their stability, quality, roll ability and general handling in all classes of whitewater. Owners report having a blast on the water in these yaks, and surfing and punching through holes are a strong suit for the Liquid Logic boats.

The outfitting on these boats gets high marks as well. The “Bad Ass” seats are plush, comfortable and responsive even after a full day of hard paddling.

The Cons

The only negative we’ve heard about the LL boats was about the thigh braces on the Remix - one owner thought they’re weren’t as solid and substantial as they could have been. Something that will hopefully be improved upon in future models.

Tips & Tricks

Reflective tape

Reflective tape can come in handy in an emergency situation.

Reflective tape is very visible at night, and is often the first thing that rescue teams see while searching for a lost paddler. Just make sure the tape is the weatherproof type sold in boating supply stores and bicycle shops.

You'll want to run a line of tape down the hull (above the waterline) of your kayak. If you have a plastic-hulled boat that tape won't stick to, try sewing the tape inside a 1" tubular webbing that can be attached over the boat's deck lines. You'll also want to tape the blades of your paddles, your PFD, and your helmet (if you wear one).
