If you're an inexperienced paddler, or you're more interested in sightseeing than fine tuning your technical skills, a guided kayaking tour can be a great way to go. There are many tour companies that will provide both the equipment and enough basic instruction to get even the most novice paddler where he or she wants to go. This can also be a great way to familiarize yourself with a new area and try out various boats and other equipment before you make that all-important buying decision.
Bear in mind that it's important to find an
outfitter who will take the time to tailor the tour and the
equipment to the client's skill l
evel.
And paying more doesn't necessarly guarantee a better experience.
If possible, talk to other paddlers who've been on the tour you're
considering. And don't be shy about calling the outfitter in
question and asking about their experience level and whether or
not they're certified through any recognized associations. And
speak directly with the tour guide if possible.

Outfitting
Outfitting
your touring kayak is an important consideration. In
addition to a boat, paddle, and a PFD, you'll need a
good spray skirt to keep the water out of your

along with Bungee cords for strapping items to the
deck, a spare paddle, navigation charts, VHF radio,
compass, camping supplies, and a host of other
items. See the Accessories
page for more info on outfitting your
